Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Whyzy Town (“Whyzy Town”, “we”, “us”), operated by [OPERATOR NAME] in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, handles information in connection with this website, the Whyzy Town YouTube channel, and our internal upload tool, Whyzy Town Uploader, which uses YouTube API Services.
1. Summary
- This website is made for young children and their grown-ups. It does not collect any personal information. It has no sign-ups, no accounts, no forms, no chat and no comments, and it never uses the microphone or camera.
- This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, social media widgets, or third-party scripts or fonts.
- A few settings (such as sound on or off) are saved only in your own browser and are never sent to us.
- Videos come from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player and load only when someone taps play. We never reward children for watching videos or subscribing.
- Our YouTube channel is set to Made for Kids.
- We use YouTube API Services only to upload and manage videos on our own YouTube channel. We do not collect, store, use or share any data about YouTube users or viewers.
2. This website
This is a static website. You and your child can use it without telling us who you are. We do not use cookies, analytics tools, advertising networks or any other technology that tracks visitors, and apart from videos you choose to play (section 3), the site does not load content from third-party servers.
Settings saved in your browser. To remember your choices, the site saves a few small settings in your browser’s storage on your device: whether sound is on, whether motion is reduced, and (for the current browser tab only) that the grown-ups area has been unlocked. These settings contain no personal information, are never sent to us, and can be removed at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
Spoken words. Picture cards may be read aloud using your device’s built-in speech voice. The site only uses voices that run on your device, so the words are not sent to us or to a speech service. If no on-device voice is available, the words are shown on screen instead.
Parent gate. The grown-ups area and links that leave the site sit behind a simple parent gate (press and hold, then a simple sum). The gate is designed to keep young children on the children’s pages. It does not collect any information and is not a method of verifying a parent or giving consent.
Like almost all websites, our web hosting provider may automatically record basic technical information in server logs when a page is requested (for example, IP address, browser type, the page requested and the date and time). These logs are kept by the hosting provider for security and to keep the site running. We do not use them to identify or profile visitors, and we do not combine them with any other information.
If you choose to email us, we will receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you, we do not add you to any mailing list, and we delete correspondence when it is no longer needed.
3. Videos on this website
Some pages show our own Whyzy Town videos. Until someone taps the play button, the page shows only a picture stored on our own website, and nothing is loaded from YouTube. When play is tapped, the video loads in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced embedded player (youtube-nocookie.com), and from that point YouTube’s own terms and privacy practices apply to the video player: see the Google Privacy Policy. Our videos are Made for Kids, so YouTube turns off personalised advertising and limits data collection for them.
This website is directed to children, and we identify it as child-directed where YouTube’s terms ask us to. We do not offer rewards, prizes or points for watching videos, liking or subscribing.
4. Our YouTube channel
Whyzy Town videos are published on YouTube, which is owned and operated by Google. When you or your child watch our videos on YouTube or YouTube Kids, YouTube’s own terms and privacy practices apply, not this website’s. Please see the Google Privacy Policy and the YouTube Terms of Service.
Our channel and every video are marked Made for Kids. For this content YouTube disables comments and personalised advertising and limits data collection, consistent with the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not receive personal information about the people who watch our videos. YouTube may show us anonymous, aggregated statistics (such as total view counts) about our own channel, which do not identify anyone.
5. YouTube API Services (Whyzy Town Uploader)
Whyzy Town Uploader is a private, internal tool used only by the channel operator. It is not offered to the public, and no one else can sign in to it. It is not used by this website. It uses YouTube API Services to:
- upload our own videos to our own YouTube channel (
videos.insert); - set thumbnails for those videos (
thumbnails.set); - add captions to those videos (
captions.insert); - confirm which of our own channels it is connected to (
channels.list); - update our own channel’s description, keywords and default settings (
channels.update); - list the videos already on our own channel, so the operator can keep a local inventory file (a CSV on the operator’s computer) and avoid duplicate uploads (
playlistItems.liston our own uploads playlist, plusvideos.listfor those videos’ titles, status and IDs); and - change the privacy setting of one of our own videos (for example, from private to public) (
videos.update). This happens only when the channel owner approves that specific change, and each change is logged on the operator’s own computer.
Optionally, the tool can also set our own channel banner image (channelBanners.insert). This is not required for the tool to work.
It requests only the Google OAuth scopes needed for these tasks: youtube.upload and youtube.force-ssl (the latter is required by YouTube to upload captions).
What data it uses: the tool works only with the channel operator’s own Google account and own YouTube channel. The only information it handles is (a) the authorisation token Google issues when the operator signs in, (b) basic details of our own channel (such as its channel ID and name), and (c) the videos, titles, descriptions, thumbnails and captions that we create and upload, along with the video IDs YouTube returns for them.
What it does not do: the tool does not access, collect, store, use or share any information about other YouTube users, viewers or subscribers. It does not read comments, watch history, other people’s playlists, subscriptions, analytics about individuals or any other user data. Nothing obtained through YouTube API Services is shared with any third party. We do not sell, rent or share it with anyone, and we do not use it for advertising.
Where it is stored: the authorisation token and a simple log of our own uploads and approved privacy changes (date, video title, video ID and the change made), and the local inventory CSV of our own videos, are stored only on the operator’s own computer. They are not uploaded to any server, website or third party. The token is kept only while the tool is in use and is deleted if access is revoked.
By using YouTube API Services, we agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Google’s handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
6. Revoking access and deleting data
Access granted to Whyzy Town Uploader can be revoked at any time through your Google Account permissions page at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions. Once access is revoked, the tool can no longer reach the YouTube account, and we delete the stored authorisation token. We also delete any locally stored YouTube API data on request or when it is no longer needed. To ask about deletion, contact us at hello@whyzytown.com.
7. Children’s privacy
Whyzy Town is made for young children, so we take their privacy especially seriously. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, on this website or anywhere else. This website has no features that let children type, record, upload or send information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information (for example, by email), please contact us at hello@whyzytown.com and we will delete it promptly.
We design this website to follow the spirit of the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and of the Children’s Online Privacy Code being developed by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, by collecting no personal information from children at all.
8. Australian Privacy Act
We are based in Australia and aim to handle any personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Because this website does not collect personal information, in practice this mostly applies to emails you choose to send us. You can ask to access or correct any personal information we hold about you, or make a privacy complaint, by contacting us at hello@whyzytown.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
9. Shop
This website does not sell anything. If we add a shop in future, it will sit only in the grown-ups area, it will be for adults, and this policy will gain a separate section explaining what the shop (and any payment or delivery provider) collects before it opens.
10. Links to other sites
The grown-ups area of this website contains links to other websites, such as YouTube and Google. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if our website, tools or the law change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
